Manganese

Our well has high levels of manganese. Manganese is still considered a “secondary” water contaminant by the EPA: https://www.epa.gov/sdwa/secondary-drinking-water-standards-guidance-nuisance-chemicals

Black water caused by high manganese levels

High levels of manganese do cause issues. As one example, high levels of manganese in the water can cause the water to be dark colored.

Manganese is a transitional metal and depending on the oxidation state manganese can be black, brown, pink, red, green, blue, and purple.

Our planned filtration plant project aims to install a manganese removal system: https://polnellwater.org/filtration-plant-project/

The filtration plant project will occur after installation of the Chlorination System https://polnellwater.org/chorination-system/ (in 2025).
